FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

Responsible for supervising all courses and programs under health professions, including nursing (ADN, LPN, and CNA) and radiologic technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate the development of an instructional schedule for health professions each semester and assign individual instructors to implement the schedule. This includes assignment at off-campus clinical sites as well as on-campus instruction. Responsible for the hiring, supervision, training, observing, and reviewing of all staff in the area as well as submitting annual recommendations to the supervisor.
  2. Evaluate all full- and part-time faculty assigned to health professions and submit annual recommendations to the supervisor.
  3. Provide general supervision and work closely with the coordinators of the certified nursing assistant and radiologic technology programs to provide high quality allied health personnel and continuing education experiences for the community served by the College.
  4. Coordinate the preparation of an annual budget request for health professions and administer the budget under the supervision of the supervisor.
  5. Complete and submit to the supervisor and all external agencies all forms and reports for his/her area of responsibility.
  6. Recommend appointments to all Workforce Councils for all vocational programs in health professions, ensure that regular meetings are held, and maintain a record of minutes of the committee meetings.
  7. Coordinate and supervise the updating of all bulletins, web pages, and brochures for programs in health professions.
  8. Serve as chairperson of the admissions committee for all three nursing programs, assume responsibility for the student applications in cooperation with the admissions office, and assist with the recruitment program for the nursing area.
  9. Assume responsibility for program evaluation, cooperate with follow-up studies and assist in placement of graduates of the area.
  10. Serve as a member of the Administrative Council, Assessment Committee, Curriculum Committee, and the Program Review Committee.
  11. Serve as the College liaison with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation for the ADN and LPN Programs and with the Illinois Department of Public Health for the Nursing Assistant program. Assume responsibility for maintaining ACEN accreditation or approval standards for all agencies.
  12. Assume responsibility for maintaining ACEN accreditation or approval standards for all regulating agencies.
  13. Maintain positive relationships and agreements with area hospitals and health care agencies where students serve their clinical experiences and seek employment upon graduation.
  14. Develop, in cooperation with the supervisor, annual goals for health professions.
  15. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must have strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  3. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  4. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
  6. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.

PERSONAL INTERACTION:

Maintain regular contact with appropriate personnel and faculty within the department to ensure that programs and classes function effectively. Frequent interaction and personal contact with health agencies, facilitators, the general public and outside organizations (usually the first line of communication). Daily contact with all levels of College personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over the CNA Program Coordinator, Health Professions Retention Coordinator, Simulation Clinical Faculty, Health Professions Faculty, Radiologic Technology Clinical Coordinator, Radiologic Technology Program Coordinator, Clinical Instruction, Health Professions Administrative Assistant, and work-study students.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in nursing; licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a registered nurse in Illinois; at least two years teaching experience (preferably at the community college level) in a nursing education program; at least two years experience in clinical nursing practice; and evidence of academic leadership ability. Evidence of support for the mission of a comprehensive community college. Appreciation for teamwork and excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of alternative teaching/learning options, curriculum design and evaluation, and ability to contribute to instructional vitality and growth.
