CNA Program Coordinator

FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

Assure regulatory compliance for the CNA program with the Illinois Department of Public Health and other state or federal entities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate CNA program policies, procedures, and activities.
  2. Correspond with SIUC and IDPH regarding program updates and revisions.
  3. Initiate criminal history background checks in compliance with the Health Care Workers Background Act in accordance with the Illinois Administrative Code and IDPH.
  4. Attend state IDPH and CNA Educators conferences to remain up-to-date with IDPH and CNAE regulations.
  5. Network with colleagues from other agencies and collaborate on legislative and regulatory changes to submit or support.
  6. Review and evaluate all Cluster Scores Reports received from the Nurse Aide Testing Project of SIUC and formulate and submit a Plan of Action for areas in which students’ scores are at the 80% level or below.
  7. Review on site state surveys and follow through with individual instructor compliance issues.
  8. Review Illinois Certified Nurse Assistant/Aide task list each year for changes in tasks being performed by Illinois Certified Nursing Assistants and adjust program to reflect these changes.
  9. Advise or implement recertification for inquiring students, as IDPH requires.
  10. Make recommendations to the Dean for policies and procedures designed to improve the quality of the educational program.
  11. Prepare master schedules for each class to be submitted to IDPH Nurse Aide Testing Project.
  12. Monitor and maintain records, forms, and files pertinent to the department functions according to IDPH regulations.
  13. Coordinate instructors and approved evaluators for lectures, labs, and clinical staffing.
  14. Network with local organizations that hire nursing assistants to assure we are meeting employer needs.
  15. Explore expansion of CNA programming to an additional high school cohort, online, Train the Trainer offerings at SVCC, and restorative CNA options.
  16. Teach high school and adult day class lectures, labs, and clinicals.
  17. Substitute as needed for CNA lectures, labs, and clinicals.
  18. Teach summer CNA lectures, labs, and clinicals.
  19. Develop staff education information to meet federal, state, IDPH, and other regulatory requirements.
  20. Provide instructors and evaluators with copies of new regulatory materials, to ensure they remain current with Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program updates, policies, and requirements.
  21. Organize and provide orientation and continuing education for all staff.
  22. Coordinate staff to maintain continuity of classes and information.
  23. Conference with staff as individual regulation compliance issues occur.
  24. Participate in the SIUC Evaluator Workshops in which Sauk has evaluators being trained for the Nurses Aide Training Performance Skill Evaluation, if required.
  25. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college
  2. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.
  3. Must be able to communicate with all levels of College personnel, students, and state/federal agencies.
  4. Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisor and to subordinates.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
  6. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  7. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and bend frequently.
  8. 40% time spent standing, 20% walking, 20% sitting, and 20% maintaining and moving equipment and supplies.

PERSONAL INTERACTION:

Contact is made as appropriate with all levels of College personnel, students, and state/federal agencies in relation to departmental services and duties.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision is exercised over designated work-study personnel.

REQUIREMENTS:

Current Illinois RN license, 2 years experience as a RN, Train the Trainer, Alzheimer’s, and Evaluator certification is required. BSN and teaching experience is preferred.

Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems.
