Assistant Director of the SVCC Police Academy and Security

FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

Serves as the Assistant Director of the SVCC Police Academy and is responsible for the supervision and administration of the physical campus security.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as the Assistant Director of the SVCC Police Academy which includes instructional responsibilities.
  2. Supervision and administration of SVCC’s physical campus, and campus safety and security officers. (25%*)
  3. Serve as liaison with Lee County Sheriff’s Office for administration of the College Resource Officer program. (5%*)
  4. Nurture relationships with public safety agencies, including emergency management agencies, health departments, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies within the SVCC district. (2%*).
  5. Serves as a SVCC Title IX Investigator. (5%*)
  6. Serve as a member of the Leadership Council.
  7. Represent the institution at relevant statewide community college professional organizations.
  8. Prepare annual budget requests; manage and maintain the budgets for supervised areas.
  9. Develop annual goals and objectives for supervised areas.
  10. Assumes all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.
  4. Must be able to provide verbal/visual presentations.
  5. Must be able to work with applicable software programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Canvas, etc.).
  6. Must be able to work non-standard hours.
  7. Must have strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.

PERSONAL INTERACTION:

Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, the general public, and outside organizations in relation to routine departmental services and duties and in providing appropriate assistance and information as requested.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over the Campus Safety and Security Officers.

REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field and three years of state, municipal and/or county law enforcement is required. National Incident Management Systems 700, 100, 200, and 300 certification is required or ability to obtain certification within a one year of hire. Must obtain approval from the Illinois Laws Enforcement Training and Standards Board for supervisory and instructional responsibilities within one year of employment.  Valid driver’s license is required.  Must be qualified through education and experience to assume proficiency in, but not limited to, the following areas: curriculum design, program administration/evaluation, instructional methodology, fiscal planning/review/analysis, testing and evaluation, and educational psychology. *Indicates tort percentages.

TORT LIABILITY STATEMENT:

Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems. May serve as a member of a committee that supports the health, safety and/or legal rights of visitors, students and staff.
