Mental Health Counseling at SVCC

Students needing assistance with personal/emotional concerns or crisis situations can access confidential Mental Health Counseling Services with a licensed therapist.

Individual counseling is based on a brief-therapeutic model to accommodate student demand for counseling services.  Long-term counseling may be referred to community resources.

If a counseling relationship will be established at Sauk, the therapist will clarify your goals and develop strategies to address the client’s concerns.  In general, counseling sessions last approximately 45 minutes.  During busy times, counselors will attempt to accommodate student schedules, but if all appointments are full, counselors will provide options for community-based referrals.

Students seek individual therapy for a variety of reasons.  Common concerns often expressed by students include:

  • Stress
  • Adjustment challenges
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Family problems
  • Relationship issues
  • Identity development
  • Gender identity
  • Religion/spirituality concerns
  • Race, ethnic, or cultural matters
  • Grief/loss
  • Trauma

Group therapy is offered for a variety of situations based upon student interest and need.
