Audio introduction to the Writing Center.

Welcome to the Writing Center! Congratulations on reaching out to see what the Writing Center has to offer you.

The Writing Center is free and open to all Sauk students studying in all departments. We are here to support students with all academic writing, workshops and special programs, individual skill building sessions, essays for scholarships and applications, resumes, and personal creative writing projects. We also provide reading comprehension support. There are no limits on the number of times students can engage with the Writing Center.

Beyond the classroom, we also offer Writers Unblocked, a monthly writing group open to students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Writers Unblocked features monthly writers for peer comments and support. Email writing.center@svcc.edu to join this group.

How do you access all of these student supports? Navigation tabs are located on the left side of the page.

Use the Appointment tab to make virtual or in person appointments with a peer tutor. We encourage students to look ahead at their deadlines and reach out to the writing center early. It’s best to make an appointment to avoid waiting to be assisted or having to return at a later time, but walk-ins will be accommodated as much as possible.

Explore ways to increase specific subject knowledge by visiting the Workshop tab. All workshops may be conducted as group learning sessions at preset times or as on demand one-on-one sessions to suit student schedules. Workshops are offered multiple times during each semester. Don’t forget about individual skill building sessions tailored to fit student needs. Let us know and we will design sessions for you.

The Resource tab includes valuable tools and resources to help students with a variety of assignments and projects related to writing. This is a place to find citation examples and rules and plagiarism checkers. Use the Tools Request Form at the bottom of the page to request resources you think other students might find helpful. We’d love your input!

Consider supporting other Sauk students by applying to become a peer tutor in the Writing Center. The Peer Tutor tab enables you to start this conversation. Peer tutors are paid and have flexible schedules. While peer tutor positions offer valuable experience for students studying education, communications, or English, they are open to any student who displays the skills necessary for the position.

Don’t forget to check out our Frequently Asked Questions tab where you can find out the history of the Writing Center and how it can support you on your academic journey.

Remember, reaching out to writing.center@svcc.edu or calling 815.835.6398 opens the Writing Center door for you!
