Related Services

The Academic Advising Office also assists with related services and resources such as the college placement program and related testing to assist students.

Sauk Valley Community College is committed to providing students with the greatest chance of success in initial and future coursework. Therefore, SVCC has adopted a placement policy to ensure that students enroll in courses that most accurately reflect their current skills and abilities in English language arts and mathematics.

All degree and most certificate seeking students must fulfill one of the placement options. These options include the SVCC placement test, ACT scores, SAT scores, and/or review of transfer credit.

Placement test scores are good for three years. SVCC academic advisors meet individually with students to explain and interpret placement test results. To schedule an appointment, contact the Academic Advising office at (815) 835-6354.

For more information, view the Placement Guide and SVCC's Placement Policy.

The SVCC Placement test is available on a walk-in basis or by appointment.  Contact the Testing Center at 815-835-6530 for current hours and availability.

Special Placement Accommodations?

Any students with special needs may request an alternative testing situation. More information is available at the Disability Support Office.

Please note: Specific documentation will be required in order to provide special testing accommodations.

GED Testing

The high school equivalency examination program (GED) is administered at SVCC and makes it possible for men and women who left school without completing their studies and to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma. You must apply to take the GED test by contacting the Regional Superintendent for your county and by paying the required fee.
