String Art

CRN: 80027 | 1 session, M (July 17) 9-10:30am

Crafters will build an 8 x 8 inch platform, layout a group of nails into a shape, and then lace string around the nails to create simple string patterns. A heart, sail boat or star pattern will be provided, but crafters are welcome to bring their own patterns to try as well. We’ll have time to let our imagination run wild with the lacing or patterns to come up with some unique projects to take home and display. (Ages 9-14)

Planter Box

CRN: 80026 | 1 session, M (July 17) 10:30am-12:00pm

Crafters will build a planter, approximately 11 x 18.5 x 16 inches. The planter will be in the shape of a cow and will be constructed from a pre-cut wood design and nailed together. When completed, crafters are encouraged to take home and paint to their own individual liking and then fill with plants and flowers of their choosing.(Ages 9-14)

Wooden Bank

CRN: 80028 | 1 session, M (July 17) 1-2:30pm

Crafters will build a wooden duck (piggy) bank to store your spare change, approximately 4 x 8 x 9 inches. Rather than a shape of pig, ours will be in the shape of a duck. The pre-cut duck pattern will be provided and crafters will be able to nail / glue the pieces together. Crafters are encouraged to take home their projects and finish the wood project to their individual liking. (Ages 9-14)

Rubber Band Car

We will build a rubber band car and create ways for the cars to increase their speed. There will be a friendly competition between crafters. A pre-cut design will be provided. (Ages 9-14)

Love nature and creating? Find beautiful elements of nature to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Join others to create a luminary utilizing recycled materials and items found in nature. (Ages 10-14)

Unlock Your Creative Writing Side

You’re an Author! Show your creativity by writing your own short story. Studying the book, A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck, students will understand what a short story is and how to craft their own. Learn between fiction or non-fiction and the aspects of creative writing. (Ages 10-14)

Medical Emergency Preparedness

CRN: 80031 | 4 sessions, M-Th (July 17-20) 10am-12pm

Train to be better prepared to act and save a life in an emergency. Students will have the opportunity to become CPR certified and receive a training certificate from Stop the Bleed for Kids. We'll use scenarios and hands-on skills training to be better prepared to handle many of the common medical emergencies' students may experience or be witness to. (Ages 9-14)

Exploring space at SVCC is a fun, educational, and interactive class where future astronauts will learn about the history of space exploration, gravity, how the moon smells and launching rockets. (Ages 8-14)

Graphic Design

Become a digital artist and create your own logo! Learn the fundamentals of Graphic Design with a focus on early design theory. This includes color theory as well as design composition. Projects will include ad design, package design, brochure and print materials. Explore the graphic design process while seeing the world in an innovative and creative way. (Ages 8-14)
